Beatnik writesThe Songs That Get You Through: “You Can’t Keep Us Down” by Danko Jones

These are obviously strange times we are living in, so we asked some of our CHIRP volunteers to tell us about a particular song they like to listen to when things are tough. We're calling it, "The Songs That Get You Through."

From Psychotic Distraction host, Chesney:

Toronto's Danko Jones is admittedly a musical one-trick pony, but sometimes that's exactly what you want and need. Not unlike AC/DC, he's been putting out the same album for 20+ years, and every release features at least one 'you against the world' anthem. His most recent album, 2019's "A Rock Supreme," ends on the raging high note, "You Can't Keep Us Down." Every line is a wake up call to action, and the song powers through like a runaway Mack Truck.

Beatnik writesThe Songs That Get You Through: “Change” by Blind Melon

These are obviously strange times we are living in, so we asked some of our CHIRP volunteers to tell us about a particular song they like to listen to when things are tough. We're calling it, "The Songs That Get You Through."

From CHIRP DJ and Live Events Coordinator Alli Klein:

While most people remember Blind Melon for their single, "No Rain" and accompanying iconic music video with the dancing bee girl, a song that has always gotten me through rough times is a different one of theirs from that same self-titled 1992 album called, "Change".  It is a song I've carried with me through the different chapters of my life, and feels especially appropriate during the pandemic times we are experiencing present day. A song about accepting the things you cannot change, and also about being open to changing your own attitude to get through whatever hardships you are facing in life. Whether I am weeping or smiling while listening, this song always makes me remember to keep pushing through.
